The Fastnet System for Roof Protection
- to prevent wind storm damage.
The Only Permanent Solution to Roof Damage :
Current research has established that climate change has and will continue to take place. This has led to increasing wind speeds occurring with greater frequency and also an increase in the number of severe gales occurring annually.
The result of this is that substantial damage will be inflicted on roofing.
The Fastnet System for Roof Protection has been designed and developed to permanently prevent storm damage to roofs.
Details of the Fastnet System
The research and development of the Fastnet System had the objective of producing a roof protection system that:-
This has been achieved by developing a structural net to meet these parameters.
Structural Net
The main component of the net is Parafil rope (TM); this is manufactured to form a mesh structure known as Paranet.
Parafil rope (TM) consists of a core of closely packed, high strength synthetic fibres lying parallel to each other and encased in a tough and durable polymeric sheath. The strength, durability and longevity of Parafil rope (TM) has been well proven through an ever increasing field of civilian and military applications. The diameter of the rope used for Paranet is 3mm and has a nominal breaking load of 300kg. Parafil (TM) is resistant to ultra-violet light, withstands extreme variations in temperature and is resistant to most organic and inorganic acids and alkalis. Most importantly it is able to retain effective tension throughout it’s service life.
Paranet is therefore ideally suited for use as an exterior structured netting and manufactured to form a 300mm x 300mm mesh it is virtually unobtrusive.
An important aspect of the Fastnet design is that the Paranet is laid over the roof and then suitably tensioned in position.
Tensioning System
This is installed permanently with the Paranet and is known as the Gripple system. This comprises the tensioning tool, known as the Gripple, and stainless steel wire rope.
The Gripple is manufactured using a zinc alloy and together with the stainless steel wire rope ensures longevity matching that of the Paranet.
Anchorage System
This consists of stainless steel brackets and bars, their strength designed to meet the loading requirements. Generally the brackets are fixed using stainless steel screws connected to the main roof timbers.
The Fastnet system can be installed quickly and efficiently without disturbing the existing roof. The building therefore remains watertight and there is minimal disturbance to the interior or it’s occupants. The system is easily accessible and can be inspected at any time.
